Jaguar XK120DHC SE – Prepared for tall persons!
For sale Jaguar XK120DHC SE version in the colour British Racing Green with a mocca brown leather interior and a black mohair softtop and hoodcover. This Drop Head Coupe (DHC) was built on June 4, 1954 and then shipped to America on June 23, 1954. There is a Heritage certificate present.
This XK120DHC has been adjusted so that taller people can also ride it properly, the following adjustments have been made, a new pedal box mounted in the bulkhead, which gives more room at the feet, the battery has been moved under the front fender, such as an XK140 so that there is more room behind the seats. There are also bucket seats mounted that can be placed further to the rear, creating more space. A great adjustment to be able to drive in the car.
The Jaguar XK120 was the first post-war sports car that Jaguar produced and was shown at the British International Motor Show in 1948 as a concept car to test the new Jaguar engine. However, the design was so successful that Jaguar decided to take the car into production. The “120” in the name XK120 refers to the top speed of 120 mph (192 km / h), making the XK120 the fastest production car of its time.
The car was available in three versions: as a Roadster (or OTS, Open Two Seater), as a Drop Head Coupe (DHC), which was actually a more luxurious version of the OTS, and as a coupe (called FHC, Fixed Head Coupe). The XK120 was succeeded in 1954 by the XK140.
All XK120 models had a separate chassis with a mounted body, drum brakes front and rear, a 3.4 liter engine with two SU carburetors and a manual gearbox. The SE version was a sportier version with a faster 180 HP engine, special dual exhaust system, wire wheels with knock-off wheel nuts, stronger torsion bars and rear springs.
Between 1948 and 1954 a total of 12,045 XK120 models were built, of which only 1,767 were produced as Drop Head Coupe models. Of these, 1,472 were delivered as left-hand drive versions, most of which were delivered new in America.
In 2016 this XK120DHC was offered for sale by the American owner as an unfinished restoration project. The man restored the XK together with a friend, but he unfortunately had disappeared, so that the project was put up for sale. The current owner travelled to Oklahoma City in 2016 to view the project and purchase it there.
In the Netherlands, the car was completely dismantled and the body was further prepared and sprayed. The engine was already overhauled and completely checked again. Chassis prepared with many new parts and the whole is assembled, photos and invoices are present in our sales folder. Interior and soft top have been completely replaced and of very high quality. This XK was RDW tested on 10 July 2019 and a Dutch registration number was issued. After restoration, approximately 2,500 km were driven with this Drop Head Coupe.
The following options have been fitted; green spoked wheels, Vredestein Classic tires, Bucket seats covered with leather, two exterior mirrors, special XK120 headlights, stainless steel sport exhaust, leather upholstery, mohair hood cover, electronic ignition, separate braking system and a hydraulic clutch.
